Akaushi (Red Wagyu)

Our Akaushi beef offering comes from Sixteen Peaks Cattle Company in Maryville, Tennessee in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains.  Akaushi cattle (red wagyu), originally from Japan, is not only known for its marbling and phenomenal taste but has health benefits unique to the breed.  With a higher concentration of monosaturated fats, Akaushi beef can help to reduce cholesterol, the prevention of coronary heart disease, and weight loss (according to the American Heart Association).  Akaushi beef is also a source of oleic acid, a compound found in olive oil that the USDA touts as good for the heart. Oleic acid gives Akaushi beef a buttery flavor profile that is truly remarkable.
